Everton are one of a handful of clubs interested in making a move for Sunderland forward Josh Maja, according to The Northern Echo.
What’s the word?
Overall, the Toffees have shown signs of progress under new manager Marco Silva.
However, the club’s current strikers are not performing, with Cenk Tosun, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Oumar Niasse failing to deliver on a consistent basis.
As a result, Silva has moved winger Richarlison up front, which has had an effect, but it looks as though the club could be dipping into the transfer market for a new forward.
The Northern Echo claims that the Toffees, along with a large number of Championship clubs, are after Sunderland’s Josh Maja.
The 19-year-old has been in fine form having scored 11 goals in all competitions so far.
Is this the right move for Everton?
There is no doubting the League One star’s talent, but the Merseyside outfit would be taking a big risk in signing him.
The team are scoring goals from other areas of the pitch, but if Silva wants added firepower up front, then he could benefit from having a player with a bit more experience.

Maja is performing well in League One, but the Premier League is a completely different animal.
Given that he is still in his teenage years, a move to Goodison Park could be daunting and he may need time to settle.
Everton need a player that can hit the ground running, so perhaps it would be best for them to pursue someone who is proven at the top level.
